22 things you will do in 2020 -- overcome your fear of death and start living

we are great at putting things off until tomorrow. ⁣

you have a great idea and you tell yourself you will get around to it tomorrow. ⁣

you know that you need to leave your job or your marriage or your hometown, you tell yourself you will get around to it tomorrow. ⁣

you know that you need to clean your house, set some goals and start that new business but you tell yourself you will get to it tomorrow. ⁣

i have a theory on why we do this. ⁣

we do this because every next level of our lives requires us to become a new person. we know that the moment we decide to do something outside of our comfort zone, it will change us on a molecular level. and we are terrified of change because in our minds we equate change to everything falling apart. ⁣

in a sense it’s true. ⁣

everything does fall apart. ⁣

but why are we terrified of things falling apart? ⁣

well, because that means we have to confront death. and death is a threat to the aspect of us that is attached to this life aka our egos. ⁣

but we are not our ego. we are not the body that we have chosen to incarnate as. we are not our personalities. we are so much bigger than our names, our identities and our experiences. ⁣

we are infinite. we don’t “die” after death. sure, our bodies die. but we go on ... where we go exactly? no one really knows.⁣

because our bodies are well aware of their limited existence, we have conditioned our minds to protect ourselves from death. this protection becomes crippling and stops us from doing anything that is remotely novel. ⁣

so how exactly do we break free from this trap?⁣

nike’s slogan says it better than anything ... JUST DO IT. ⁣

we are entering 2020 and instead of putting all your wild ambitious desires on the shelf until some arbitrary future, do it now. ⁣

make a list of 22 things you have always wanted to do/learn/be and decide that 2020 will be the year you do these things. ⁣

for instance, i have been wanting to do a ten-day silent meditation retreat for a while. this is on my list for things i have to do in 2020. ⁣

when we write things down, we are making a commitment to ourselves. the act of thinking about what it is you want to do and writing it out is 50% of the process. by the end of the list, you have done 50% of the work. ⁣

and once you write it out, it has been recorded into your subconscious mind which will work towards making it happen for you. and when the opportunity presents itself, promise yourself that you will JUST DO IT. ⁣

the truth is, you won’t die. if anything you will become stronger and more confident. even though traversing on new paths and doing new things can feel like death, in the beginning, we realize after a while that it’s really just our primitive minds that play tricks on us. ⁣

after all, would you rather die living an extremely fun and fulfilling life or live a life of slow death, not having accomplished anything?⁣

whats one thing at the top of your list of 22 things you will do in 2020?⁣
