a deeper dive into emotions

emotions. let’s talk emotions. most of the work i do is around emotional intelligence. i feel regardless of what aspect of life we are discussing, emotions are always the foundational basis for it all. so emotions are very very important. but, we don’t love ALL of our emotions. we love feeling some and we hate feeling others.
let’s take anxiety for instance, no one likes feeling anxiety yet millions of Americans cope with it every single day of their lives. emotions carry messages and until we receive the message they are bringing to us, they will stay there. many of us have been conditioned to use something else to escape having to feel them. some people use work, some use food, some use drugs, the choices are endless.
what is it that we are so afraid of having to face?
i think it is deeper than having to feel pain. i think what we are running from deep down is the idea that our entire lives are built on a lie and having to face this lie will cause a crisis. we are running away from that tower moment, where everything comes crashing down on us. when we have to face that our relationships are unreal, what we are doing doesn’t fulfill us and that our potential is being strangled out of us. and worst of all, the strangling is being done by no one but us.
ouch.
the emotions we most hate, are ones that remind us of this strangling. that remind us that we are close to breaking and that holding up the facade is no longer sustainable. “it is all going to collapse” says the voice of truth. and that drives us crazy. we make irrational choices and look for any way to distract ourselves. to drown out this little voice that threatens our entire existence.
but does it threaten our existence or does it threaten our false identity? our ego ... and all of its attachments? i am starting to realize that nothing real can be destroyed. what scares us more than anything is being annihilated. we fear death more than anything else in our world. however, we are made of energy and energy can not be destroyed. this alone destroys the whole concept of fear. it shows how illusionary it truly is. if we never die, is there really anything to fear?
our “negative” emotions are constantly guiding us to look at what is false in our lives. the easiest way to put this is that when we are happy, we are in alignment. when we are sad, it is an indication that something is wrong. we are being untrue to ourselves in some way, which leads back to us not being in alignment. we are taking something that is not real and holding onto it. we are attempting to change nature, something that is out of our control. we are in a state of fear which means there is something that is threatening our existence; which again is a logical fallacy.
do you see how clever fear is? the solution to all of this is to realize that you can never die and that nothing can be stripped of you that is truly yours (your energy signature is all that is truly yours). the goal in life is to be okay with losses but ego won’t let that happen. and these emotions we run from are a constant reminder that loss is part of life and that we must learn to be okay with it. and the only way to be okay with it is to create a foundation of nonattachment and to realize that all things are constantly in a state of change. you can’t hold on to anything, and eventually, you will see how this is actually ultimate bliss and freedom.
but first things first, let the emotions guide you to your truth.
