have the odds been stacked against you?

we can not experience love and light without experiencing cold indifference and darkness. ⁣

i was in Los Angeles last winter on Mt Washington, a small neighborhood that is in the city but not of the city (a lot of LA is divided like this). it is located up on a hill where you can see a beautiful museum just across the way, the views at the Airbnb were amazing; the spot was magical.⁣

the drive up there wasn’t as magical, we drove through what i perceived to be a hood. the vibrations were so low and as soon as we started driving up i felt an instant shift. ⁣

a lot shifted for me that trip. i realized that the world isn’t going to cater to you based on what is fair, but the world will only mirror back to you wherever you decide to put yourself: mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. ⁣

the problem with this is that the world doesn’t cater to victims. no matter how much you have been victimized, the frequency of victimhood is so low that you will only continue to reflect that reality back to you.⁣

i know a thing or two about being a victim. i mean, the odds were against me from the jump. black, woman, muslim, immigrant … there are so many reasons for me to feel like the world is against me - so much messaging that lives in the psyche of America that tells me that my identity is “less than.”⁣

but i have always felt the presence of truth with me more than i felt the illusion of the program that wanted to trap me. i guess, in a sense, Get Out The Trap is my story. ⁣

i’ve gotten out of so many traps in my life because of one thing, my connection to something greater than me. call it God, the Universe, Allah, Angels, Guides, Krishna, Buddha .. it doesn’t matter. ⁣

we are never helpless, even if we have been victimized. ⁣

for my people, six feet under is all we have ever known. but six feet under, means we live in darkness and after all these years i can finally understand how much of a blessing the darkness truly is. ⁣

it is the dark that fosters the seed that eventually becomes a tree, and it is the dark that catapults us into the understanding of our light. ⁣

i want you to reframe the way you look at victimhood. reframe the way that you look at the odds that are stacked against you. reframe it by understanding that the contrast you face has a boomerang effect. the lower the lows, the higher the highs. ⁣

i like to think of it like a rubber band being pulled back every time you face a challenge in life and if you don’t give up on yourself, that shit carries you as you fly. ⁣

we are travelers here, this is not our home. this is a playground, and we fall when we play. but we get back up and we keep playing, with absolute pleasure. ⁣

that is the way life is meant to be. ⁣
