Can you look at your life honestly and ask yourself what is the point of COMPLETION for every goal you have?
This question assumes that you are one of the rare few who have their goals written down, which according to earl nightingale is a very small percentage of people.
It’s not that hard to complete anything. What causes us anxiety when it comes to completion is our over-evaluation of the quality of our work. Completion asks us to be brave and focus on pressing the finish button.
If we spend less time worrying about the way our work will be perceived and more time on just doing the task, we would be way more productive.
Breaking your big vision up into micro-steps is a hack to reaching the point of completion.
A lot of us get lost in the detail and never see the END of a goal. What we never talk about is it takes a good relationship with yourself to get to the point of completion. It’s a vulnerable process.
The way you complete anything is by merging with the activity and giving all of your focus to it. This creates a flow state. You become one with the task you are completing. And if it’s your first time, you will find yourself failing. That's the point where a lot of people give up. But the success-oriented people stick it out knowing that failure IS THE WAY.
The steps are simple.
The first step is to relax and focus on getting into the flow state. Time stops and you are in another dimension. We will find ourselves effortlessly completing tasks when we stop exerting our limited willpower.
The second step is to know what completion looks like for each goal you have. Once you know the point of completion you must enter the state of TRUST and start the task immediately.
According to the War of Art and anyone who has ever tried to tap into their creative side, resistance (the greatest enemy to creativity) will rear its ugly head.
When we are at the beginning, the fear of the unknown is the loudest. We can use this fear as fuel for our work. Emotions are just energy - it’s up to us to decide what we want to do with that energy.
Fear can definitely cause us to stop ourselves. We need to develop a great relationship with the fear that comes up during our journey to the completion point.
Once we are comfortable with our fear of the unknown it’s easier to chip away at it. When we master completing simple tasks, we develop the habit of completion.
The path to mastery will look messy.
Fear will be your background noise but don’t yield to it. Keep your focus on the task. You will find it easier as you continue to complete each of your goals.
The point of completion is where you meet your success. Of course, there is an entire journey that leads you to that point but the importance of building completion as a habit can never be emphasized enough.
Mastering the now moment and realizing your goals can be completed through micro-steps offers you empowerment and motivation.
And from there, it’s a rinse and repeat process.
You got this!!
